2013 Queen Liliʻuokalani Monogram Ornament

2013 marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of Queen Liliuokalani, Hawaii's last reigning monarch. Descended from high chiefs, she was born Lydia Liliu Loloku Walania Wewehi Kamakaeha on September 2, 1838. Her brother, King Kalākaua declared her Crown Princess in 1877, and she inherited the throne upon his death in 1891. She ruled from 1891 to 1893 and was greatly beloved by the Hawaiian people.

The personal emblem of Queen Liliʻuokalani is a stylize LILIU within a circular garter that bears her motto: ONIPAA (Steadfast). The garter is surmounted by the crown of the Kingdom of Hawaii. This emblem appeared on her stationary during her reigns as Crown Princess and Queen.

This ornament is an exclusive ʻIolani Palace design.
